The Chamber is Here for You!

This is obviously a very difficult time for firms of all sizes as the nation goes back into lock-down, meaning all non-essential businesses have to close again.

Businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors are to receive a one-off grant worth up to £9,000, the Chancellor has announced.

  • Chancellor announces one-off top up grants for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses worth up to £9,000 per property to help businesses through to the Spring
  • £594 million discretionary fund also made available to support other impacted businesses
  • This comes in addition to £1.1 billion further discretionary grant funding for Local Authorities, Local Restriction Support Grants worth up to £3,000 a month and extension of furlough scheme

This follows the Prime Minister’s announcement that these business will be closed until at least February half-term in order to help control the virus, and, together with the wide range of existing support, provides them with certainty through the Spring period.

You can see further detail on this at the NEW LOCKDOWN GRANTS announcement, which is part of the government’s BUSINESS CORONAVIRUS SUPPORT.

Lewes Chamber of Commerce is here for both our Members, and the wider business community of Lewes. If you need help or advice, contact us and we will always do our best to try and help, even if it’s just pointing you in the right direction of who to talk to for more information.

Chamber President, Clare Crouch, has written to Maria Caulfield MP recognising the support packages that are in place, but also asking about support for businesses who are not in retail, hospitality or leisure, who also need support. This specific issue has been raised with the Treasury Team and we look forward to hearing the outcome.

In the meantime, we wish all business owners, and staff, well in what is very worrying and stressful times.
